Exciting news for Chelsea fans as the club has finalized a deal to bring Enzo Maresca on board as their new head coach, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Maresca is set to ink a five-year contract with the Blues, with Chelsea also agreeing to pay compensation to Leicester City for his services.
The 44-year-old Maresca emerged as the top choice to replace Mauricio Pochettino, beating out other candidates like Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank, and Roberto De Zerbi. This appointment will mark Chelsea’s fourth coaching change since Todd Boehy’s consortium took over the club in May 2022, with the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Pochettino preceding Maresca.
Having guided Leicester City to a first-place finish in the Championship and securing promotion to the Premier League, Maresca’s coaching prowess has not gone unnoticed. His successful stint under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, as well as leading City’s Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title, further highlight his credentials.
Prior to his tenure at Leicester, Maresca also had a brief spell at Parma in Serie B before finding his groove with the Foxes. Implementing a dynamic 4-3-3 formation and emphasizing attacking flair while maintaining defensive solidity, Maresca’s tactical acumen shone through as Leicester’s impressive goal-scoring record and defensive resilience demonstrated.
With 89 goals scored, only outdone by Leeds United, and conceding just 41 goals, the lowest in the Championship, Maresca’s managerial style is poised to inject fresh energy into Chelsea’s gameplay.
