Chelsea’s Pursuit for a New Manager: McKenna, Maresca, and Frank Top the Shortlist
Chelsea Football Club is on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. The club has wasted no time in drawing up an early shortlist of potential candidates, with Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank at the forefront.
McKenna, 38, who recently guided Ipswich Town to promotion from the Championship, has emerged as a leading contender for the position. However, competition is fierce as Brighton also have their eye on the talented manager to replace Roberto de Zerbi. Manchester United is also reportedly interested in McKenna, although his compensation fee is estimated to be over £4 million.
Maresca, 44, is another strong option for Chelsea, given his successful track record at Leicester City and his experience as a coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. Meanwhile, Danish coach Frank, 50, is being considered for his achievements in guiding Brentford to the Premier League and maintaining their status in the top flight.
In addition to these three candidates, Chelsea also has a mysterious fourth contender on their shortlist, adding an element of intrigue to the managerial search. While Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness was previously rumored as an option, it appears that he will be staying in Germany.
The Chelsea players who are not away on international duty are set to return for pre-season training on 4 July. Under new management, they will kick off their preparations with a tour of the United States. After finishing sixth in the Premier League and losing to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final last season, Chelsea will be eager to make a strong start under their new leader.
